January NFO Challenge and February goal setting

Despite being under the weather for about 1/2 of January, I was still able to get something accomplished. Not as much as I had hoped, of course, but something is always better than nothing.

I think it is great that Barbara of Cat Patches fame gives us complete permission and encouragement to start new projects each month with her 2014 NewFO Challenge, whether or not we actually finish them. Now I won't feel guilty for finally starting some of the projects that have been lingering on my "To make" list for far too long.
I've taken the pledge and committed myself to participate this year in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

Since my scrap buckets are beyond overflowing and as Doc McStuffins has diagnosed, they suffer from a serious case of Stuffedfullosis, this will go a long way I hope in helping me busting through the scrap piles and create a bunch of lovelies from them. The January blocks in Blue was a great way to start.
My other NewFo for January was based on my Always and Forever charm pack that I've been hording forever. It was time to bust the wrapping and sew them up all pretty.
I managed to make not one but 2 table runners from the charm pack. the one on the left is the 1st one, created from a design idea I came up with one day. The 2nd runner on the right is the one that I created from the leftover bits from the 1st runner.

For my February goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes, the plan is to actually quilt and bind the 1st one on the left. Yes I do actually hope to get both of them done but I'm not going to commit myself to finishing the one on the right. Why not? Well...I know how I want to quilt the one on the left but I haven't a clue as to what I want to do with the other one. It has a ton more negative space and I want to try some cool things on that. But what cool things I don't know yet.
So there they are...my modest new starts and goal for February. Being a shorter month and the fact that I will be home with the kids during the upcoming winter break week, it makes no sense to try and do too much. If I did, they'd surely find a way to put a kink in my plans. Kids typically do.

Smaller goals that can be finished are quite satisfying. Love those two runners - I see some large stitch hand stitching on the more negative space one.

Very pretty table runners. I like the blue blocks. These is a good block to use up the scraps.

Wow good use of your fabric to get two runners from them. Your blue blocks are wonderful. I'm considering starting a similar quilt. I've been doing some scrap quilts, but I need something that uses more scraps. They pile up faster than I can use them.
